Italian Renaissance Revival Late 19th Century Carved Armchair
Heavily carved wood late 19th century Italian palatial and regal armchair with its original antique floral velvet brocade tapestry seat covering. Very faded on the top of the seat, the antique tapestry still has vibrancy in the front and back and is appointed with large gold painted metal nailheads. Original burlap-type covering the springs on the underside also has small nailhead detail. There is an earthen red paint followed by a gilded-colored paint over the entire wood frame which has pealed and chipped in places. There are seam cracks typical for this age chair and a lot of natural wear yet the chair is solid and sturdy and totally functional. The legs are conjoined with a heavily intricately carved apron and the underside of seat fabric is loose in that area.
