• Ernest Race Rare Aluminum and Powder Blue Laminate Dining Set

Fantastic and rare powder blue and aluminum dining table and four matching chairs designed and manufactured by Ernest Race in England in the mid-1950s. Using airplane aluminum, he shaped the table legs to resemble airplane wings and flared them out in such a way as to make them appear to be able to lift-off and fly. The bullnose aluminum banding around the entire tabletop is mimicked around the chair seats. The chairs are meticulously detailed in that the seats have an incised circle and are corseted in the back with legs that taper to an extreme spiky point. The canted drawer in the table is integral to the design as a whole.

One of these table and chair sets is in the permanent collection of MOMA in New York City and another in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

A rare find in this great condition. Sold as a set consisting of the table and four chairs.
